L’orizzonte del cristianesimo come «problema» era stato introdotto da Severino nella prima fase del suo pensiero per giustificare la «compatibilità» di fede e ragione agli occhi della ragione filosofica e per preservare il carattere soprannaturale della fede agli occhi della coscienza credente. A questi concetti che caratterizzavano la sua posizione circa il rapporto fede-ragione sul piano formale Severino aggiungeva, riecheggiando Pascal, quello di «scommessa». Si tratta di un orizzonte che è stato oscurato sia dai critici di Severino che, talvolta, dallo stesso filosofo bresciano, anche a motivo dell’emergere di questioni di carattere contenutistico inerenti alla fede cristiana che sono sopraggiunte nel tempo in relazione con gli sviluppi del pensiero severiniano.

The Compatibility of Faith and Reason, the Wager and the Problem. Severino and the Christian Faith
The horizon of Christianity as a “problem” had been introduced by Severino in the first phase of his thinking to justify the “compatibility” of faith and reason in the eyes of philosophical reason and to preserve the supernatural character of faith in the eyes of the believing conscience. To these concepts that characterized his position on the relationship between faith and reason on a formal level, Severino added, echoing Pascal, that of the “wager.” This is a horizon that has been obscured both by Severino’s critics and, at times, by the Brescian philosopher himself, partly because of the emergence of questions of content inherent in the Christian faith that have arisen over time in relation to developments in Severino’s thought.
