Trascendenza divina e sacralità della Terra Ecologia e religione di Gaia tra Anne Primavesi e Rosemary Radford Ruether

Filosofia e Teologia XXXVIII, 2 (2024), Dio in questione. Post-teismo e dintorni, pp. 361-378

Taking up the famous Gaia theory elaborated by the British chemist James Lovelock, our intention is to deepen some ecotheological themes that have emerged from some re-readings of this scientific hypothesis. After a brief introduction on the theme of religiosity and the sacred implicit in the theory of Gaia, the article explores the peculiar vision offered us by Anne Primavesi who, passing through a theological reinterpretation of the notions of autopoiesis and interconnectivity, arrives at defining the theology as a «science of the earth». Then follows a section dedicated to the analysis of Rosemary Radford Ruether’s thought who, paying close attention to the need for a theological investigation of the feminine, expresses herself in favor of an ecological reconsideration of both the pact and the sacramental tradition. Finally, we will show the theoretical implications that emerge from a reconsideration of divine transcendence starting precisely from the theory of Gaia as it had offered us by the two previous thinkers.
